Mexican President to Trump: ‘Not Now, Not Ever’

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on Tuesday lashed back at President Trump for renewing his claim that Mexico would pay for Trump’s proposed border wall.

“NO. Mexico will NEVER pay for a wall. Not now, not ever. Sincerely, Mexico (all of us),” Nieto tweeted on May 30, 2018

The statement in English and in Spanish came in response to Trump renewed pledges at a campaign rally in Tennessee that “in the end, Mexico is going to pay for the wall.”

“They make all of this money, and they do absolutely nothing to stop people from going through Mexico, from Honduras and all these other countries, the caravan, all of this stuff,” the president said.

“They do nothing to help us, nothing.”

“They’re going to pay for the wall, and they’re going to enjoy it,” Trump added.

Trump has promised that Mexico would pay for a wall along the southern border since the early days of his campaign.

Soon after Trump’s inauguration, the two leaders had a “heated” exchange over the issue on the phone.

Peña Nieto stressed, as per The Washington Post that the demand was offensive to Mexicans; Trump countered that it was unreasonable for the Mexican leader to back off the issue that resounded so well with his followers
