Calloway County wrecks result in two fatalities

Kentucky State Police are investigating two motor vehicle accidents that resulted in two fatalities. In the first accident, a two vehicle crash occurred at 10:59 a.m. Tuesday, in Calloway County. According to police reports, Theda Weatherly, 50, of Memphis, TN, was northbound on US Highway 641 when she left the roadway and overcorrected striking a 2003 Hyundai driving southbound by Gene F. Sammons, 72, (address not released), Mr. Sammons left the roadway coming to a final rest.

Ms. Weatherly came to final rest on US Highway 641. Mr. Sammons was pronounced dead at Calloway County Hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Ms. Weatherly was transported to Calloway County Hospital where she was treated for her injuries.

TFC Anderson was assisted by Calloway Fire and Rescue, Murray Fire Department and EMS. The investigation continues with the Kentucky State Police.

The second accident occurred at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, on Hwy. 121, 12 miles south of Murray. Police reports show that Martha Battle, 81, of Murray, KY, was northbound on KY 121 when she apparently fell asleep, ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

A passenger in the vehicle, Guy Battle, 89, of Murray, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mrs. Battle was transported to Murray Calloway County Hospital with injuries.

The investigation is continuing by Trooper Donald Bowman.
